Program Structure
The mechatronics degree program brings together all aspects
of engineering branches that largely contribute to mechatronics, particularly
mechanical, electronic, electrical, and control engineering.
Year 1
You need to take up courses in mathematics as well as study engineering
fundamentals that include digital and analogue electronics, statics, materials,
manufacturing, engineering, thermodynamics skills. These courses are mostly
supported by laboratory work and individual and group project.
Year 2
In the second year of the course, you continue to study
fundamental engineering and mathematics courses that are linked to electrical
and mechanical domains. They form the foundation for the study of mechatronics.
Year 3
In the third year, you develop skills and knowledge in
control system, real-time programming, and electronic system design. This is in
combination with study of data, instrumentation and mechanical systems to
create interdisciplinary skills required to carry out a mechatronic group
design project.
Years 4 and 5
The prime route to become a fully chartered engineer, you
need to complete the MEng degree that takes about 5 years. As far as BEng
degree is concerned, it takes about 4 years for completion. You will be
selected for BEng and MEng depending on the progress record in your initial 3
years.
In your 4th and 5th year, you can take
a variety of courses in engineering that may include robotics, control and
mechatronic systems. Besides, you can take up courses in professional practice
such as forming business plans, comprehending legal and professional
requirements and management. In the final year, you undertake an individual
project for MEng degree and it’s completed with a range of technical courses.
Overview of
Mechatronics Projects
As far as the mechatronics projects are concerned, students
are mostly asked to make projects that combine electronics and mechanics. This
means that a simple mechanism needs to be build, which can be controlled by a
micro-controller unit. These projects enclose 3 main parts.
- Students need to build and design their mechanical establishment
- They should form the electronic connection between the micro-controller and the setup that mostly comes close to buffering, amplification and signal conditioning.
- The project should include micro-controller programming in assembler language so that the key goal gets used to distinct possibilities of a device and understand the basics of the computer control unit like interrupts.
List of Mechatronics
Projects
- Automatic railways signaling system
- Automatic heat chamber control system
- Fabrication of path finding robo
- Two wheeler automation with security system
- Railways accident avoiding system
- Fabrication of automatic railway gate controller
These projects are basically a part of the mechatronics
course taught in the 4th grade electronical and civil mechanical
engineer. There are lists of projects that are proposed, but students have an
option to choose their own proposals. As a result, students are asked to form a
website about the project that explains in detail about the concerns and
solutions.
